Nolan Ross being a huge geek is probably one of the best things that could’ve happened to Emily Thorne. Yes, geeks can be disgusting individuals, we have rotten apples just like every other slice of society you pick based on any criterion, but given that Nolan is a good person, is a “good geek”, he’s about the best match Emily could’ve hoped for.
Why? Because us geeks tend to be honest and open and unapologetic about who we are and what we care for. Nolan plays Tetris while Daniel’s in his office. Marco bought him a Lord Zoltan robot and Nolan got this spark in his eyes like Christmas and Easter and his birthday had a child and the golden egg it laid was resting in his hands. He has an attraction to lore and mythology and makes no excuses about being interested in it, something Padma actually uses to bring some of her own culture into their relationship and into the house she hoped to buy for him. He names his spying cams (Shamu ♥) and takes pride in them. He makes references to the point that’s a great deal of what his relationship with Aiden is based on, them cracking 007/Q jokes.
Now, let’s face it, Nolan being this bundle of eccentric interests and life-long issues is what made him one of the most secluded and lonely individuals in the Hamptons. But at the start of season 1, when Emily meets him again after all these years, he’s still very much that very same person. He’s true to himself. And for Emily Thorne, whose entire life was based on lies and deceit, who had to play this game herself just so she could survive (her relationship with FauxAmanda started with Emily pretending to be her friend so Amanda will do as she says), who didn’t believe she’d ever find someone who could be her partner, Nolan Ross is the very best partner she could’ve hoped to find. There’s a reason why even Aiden admits what Nolan and Emily have is important and that Emily is “Nolan’s” - Nolan accepts Emily despite not knowing what she’s been through (at least up to S2), opposed to Aiden who thinks he knows what Emily’s been through because of his own past when things are so very different for them.
And it is with this person, Nolan Ross, that Emily Thorne can, for the first time in forever, be herself. Unwind and seek comfort and solace. It’s why she smiles even when he cracks all the references she might not get without once acting like it’s a bother, and why Nolan is one of the precious few people Emily is willing to be co-pilot for, to be the sidekick of. Because Nolan Ross is true to himself, and around him, Emily Thorne can finally do the same, to the point Nolan will fight Emily herself if she’s beginning to stray.

This is my family. I found it, all on my own. It’s little, and broken, but still good.
